Zendesk pricing: what a solo founder actually pays

Zendesk starts at $19 per agent, but live chat needs Suite Team at $55. Here's what one founder really pays at 100 and 1,000 conversations a month.

Quick answer: Zendesk starts at $19 per agent a month (billed yearly), but that plan is email only. To put support live chat on your site you need Suite Team at $55 per agent a month billed yearly ($69 monthly). AI agents are billed per "automated resolution", and Zendesk doesn't publish that price.

Zendesk's pricing page is one of the hardest to turn into a real monthly number, so here's the math for a team of one.

The 4 things the pricing page doesn't make obvious

  1. Chat isn't on the $19 plan. Messaging and live chat start at Suite Team, so the real starting price for the widget is $55–69 per agent.
  2. AI is priced per resolution, and the price isn't public. Every plan includes AI agents, and each seat gets a small monthly "resolution allowance" ($2 on Team plans, $5 on Suite Professional). Past that, Zendesk tells you to contact sales. Third-party reviews estimate about $1.50–2.00 per resolution, but Zendesk hasn't confirmed that.
  3. Copilot costs extra. The agent assistant is $50 per agent a month, billed yearly, on Professional and up.
  4. Monthly billing costs about 25% more. Suite Team is $55 billed yearly vs $69 billed monthly.

Is there a free plan or discount?

There's no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Zendesk also runs a startup program for startups it approves. Apply if you qualify, but plan your budget for the day it ends.

When Zendesk is worth it

Zendesk makes sense when you have a support team: routing between agents, SLAs, deep reporting and hundreds of integrations. For one founder answering 100 chats a month, you mostly pay for features you won't open.
